At RFT, we have strived hard to create a feeling of community within our four walls. We aim to seperate ourselves from the majority of fitness clubs out there where you simply scan a tag and pass through a gate, and maybe, just maybe you’ll get a hello from the ‘friendly’ reception staff (more than likely only if you say hello first).
What’s the benefit of creating an environment that has a sense of community? After all, if you’ve got a goal and are dedicated and strong-willed enough to want to succeed, it shouldn’t really matter right? Well, to put it bluntly… WRONG!
Having a friendly, community based atmosphere can be a crucial yet often overlooked tool in achieving your health and fitness goals. You may be asking yourself, “How so?” As I mentioned, if your desire to change is strong enough, what does it matter? Well, having been in this industry for 16 years, I know that desire, passion, commitment, comes and goes. Even for myself. And it’s during those times when you may feel ‘not up to it’ or just going through the motions, that the power of community really takes effect!
Think about it. Imagine walking into your gym, session after session, week after week, and the atmosphere feels cold, sterile and even lonesome. Your training can become a chore. And this is the time when you can possibly lose sight of your goals. Just drifting in and out and maybe you stop attending the gym altogether. Now, what if you were walking into a gym where you’re welcomed? A place where you’re like family? A place where you’re emerged in a positive culture? Research shows that by surrounding yourself with like-minded people, people on a similar mission to you, can increase your chances of success, be it a health related goal or business related goal, spending the majority of your time with those people can impact your results dramatically.
The people whom you spend the most time with you will become like them, is not just a statement, that is a fact. John Locke said it best; “We are like chameleons, we take our hue and the colour of our moral character, from those who are around us.” Who are you becoming? What are you reading? How are you acting on a daily basis? What are you uttering to yourself? And where are you heading with your life if you continue to surround yourself with your current friends?
The people around you should believe in you, they should uplift you, they should make you believe in yourself to a greater degree, they should push you to be the best that you can be, and they should hold you to a higher standard so that you may achieve your dreams.

This is what a community based facility like RFT is all about! Whether you’re coming in for 1 on 1 personal training, Semi Private Training or coming in for the group exercise classes, you will be made to feel welcome. You will be surrounded by like-minded people. You will engage with those that are on the same journey as yourself! This can only have a positive impact on your health and fitness goal!
