The impact of mindset on your health is a big factor when it comes to results and a new and improved you. This is a key ingredient when it comes to your results in the gym and sadly it is the key ingredient that is left out of most fitness/training programs. Online training programs will give you exercises to do and promise you the world and let you go on your merry way. There will be no accountability, mentoring or goal setting. Just do this and all your problems will melt away. This is what we call a “quick fix”. But what you need to know that this will help you out for 4-6 weeks and BAM!!! You are back to square one. Or the really sly ones will advertise the world’s best meal plan that will you lose a quick 10kgs (by putting you in a calorie deficiency) and what happens when you finish that whiz bang meal plan?? That’s right BAM!! Welcome back to square one.
Imagine if you came across a health and wellness program that possessed all three of these vital ingredients. Mindset, nutrition AND movement. Together these three ingredients will not only give you results but also help you change bad habits into good, negative into positives and results into something sustainable and maintainable. Unleashing the best possible version of yourself humanly possible. BUT WAIT. I am not saying it will be easy. But the good thing is I am not saying it is hard. It is achievable, with the right mindset in place.
First and foremost you must learn and be fully aware that “it” probably wont happen for you on the first go. Or the second and third if I am going to be real with you. We need to break the habit of being ourselves first and foremost. Break ONE habit to prove to yourself that you are 110% committed to a change and worthy of a change. It is important to understand how the process of change works.
- Set an ultimate goal
- Set small goals to help you achieve the ultimate goal
- Fail that goal
- Set the same goal again
- Fail it one more time
- Then set the exact same goal and achieve it (actually you will smash it out of the park. Because after the first two attempts you will have learnt why you failed it in the first place.) And that in its self is the first step to change.
It is like the “boyfriend analogy”. That’s right the whole:
You contemplate it for ages.
Talk with your friends about what do.
Agonise over it for a while.
To make up.
Until eventually you realise that he is just no good. The same goes with bad habits. We know they are no good for us but yet we keep repeating them over and over like a bad song stuck on replay. This process is the “learning to quit” process.
Learning your own personal behavioural patterns and being aware of why you achieve some things and not others will be the key to unlocking your success to results. The process is all about learning to quit your bad habits so you can mentally and physically prepare yourself for new ones.
Staying motivated and keeping yourself accountable is where it becomes tricky and consistency can become lost amongst it all. Accountability is where it becomes key and that’s where one of the coaches from RFT come into play. We will keep you accountable to any goal you set yourself big or small. One on one personal training is based on accountability.
– Making sure you turn up to your weekly sessions
– Helping you set and achieve weekly goals (if not we will set them again until it is achieved)
– Have you done a yoga class today
– Making sure you eat enough throughout the day or not too much
– Keeping you accountable to your cardio goals
– As well as getting in your weight sessions
– Giving you the right dumbbell (you: I’ll do a goblet squat with this lovely 7kg dumbbell. Us: Here you go now 10 squats with this 12.5kg dumbbell please!! See the difference? Or more to the point feel the difference?)
And the list can go on.
When it comes to a positive mindset be kind to yourself and learn as you grow. Don’t dive head first into the deep end. Find yourself a health and wellness coach that can kind you correctly and safely through the journey. It is always nice to have some guidance and reassurance. Embrace the journey to a happier and healthier you.
