Thy food is thy medicine

November 27, 2017realadmin_adminEducation

If you are looking for a place to eat or grocery shop and you are after a specific health food ingredient or you are gluten sensitive or maybe dairy free, or just like to nourish your body with only the best. Well do I have the answer for you!! Hills Organics in Dural. A little gem filled with beautiful products from house made kombucha to quinoa penne. If you name any health food item or even beauty item, they will have it in store for you. The shelves are filled to the brim with the most highest of quality products for optimal health.

As great as their products are and beautiful their space is, once I sat down with owner Andrea over a coffee I realised how much more Hills Organics is than a café/health food store. So much more.

Andrea and her husband opened this little slice of paradise to help further educate ‘The Hills’ on health, what it really means and how it can feel. “To feel 100% is what everyone deserves and I want to educate people who come in here how to do that. Whether it’s recommending products or helping them out with problems they are experiencing and pointing them in the right direction. I want people to know that healthy eating is affordable and doesn’t have to be hard!” If you look around this beautiful space Andrea and her husband have created there is a lot of reading material, products and recipes on offer to make the experience of healthy eating an enjoyable one. The similarities in our both RFT’s mission and Hills Organics is an important one. Education. Without education and learning we are stationary, we go nowhere. So to improve and grow as an individual education is key. Whether it comes to results in the gym or the best way to eat to be a healthy human, reading and learning about the topic at hand will only benefit you and your process. When I asked Andrea what her number one health tip was. Her answer was brilliant. Knowledge and how do we get knowledge through education and reading useful materials. Read, read, read. Talk to professionals in the industry and they can inform you of the best options and what will be the most efficient path for you to take on your journey.

“Food really is medicine and can be used in that way, to help heal the body especially the gut!” Andrea is talking from personal experience as her daughter suffers from severe eczema. Out of pure frustrations Andrea and her husband turned to food for help. And food is where they found the answer. They dramatically changed the way their daughter ate in order to control her skin condition as well as visiting ‘Salts of the Earth’ on a weekly basis. “The severity of her eczema has lessened a lot and we can put that down to her diet, she doesn’t go without at all but what she does eat has helped immensely.” Food really is the root to a lot of today’s issue’s people encounter whether it be with their gut, skin or bowel. Food can be the answer and choosing organic where you can will make the world of difference. Less chemicals and more nutrients for the body to absorb. Nourishing the body is Andrea’s life modo. nourishing the insides to get the most out of our food and everyday living.

Andrea’s passion for good, quality, organic food started when she was little with her Mother always growing her own vegetables and cooking everything from scratch. stay clear of chemicals and plating up wholesome meals. In Hill’s Organics you will find beautiful cook books on the wall to help you with idea’s and recipes that the whole family will enjoy. Making meal time a family affair again and bringing it back to the table will make it all worth while and making the health eating process all the much easier when everyone is on the same page.

Some very exciting news and inside goss from Andrea, Hill’s Organics will be expanding soon to an upstairs component where people and business can hire the space for functions and seminars, workshops and even bringing cooking workshops for the public to join in. Big and exciting things happening for Hill’s Organics so watch this space.

HOW TO EAT WITH AWARENESS 🤔 Being aware and mo HOW TO EAT WITH AWARENESS 🤔

Being aware and more present with our daily nutrition seems to be less and less common. What are some ways we can become more aware of what we eat?

1. Set an intention. How do you want to feel at the end of the day? Tired and lethargic? Or strong & healthy? If the answer is strong & healthy than packaged foods and sugar aren’t going to get you there.

2. Track your food. In order to become more aware we need to understand the calories that are coming in. By tracking your food you can understand what your food is made up of in terms of nutrient value.

3. Where your focus goes your energy will flow. Focus on consuming less processed more whole foods. Less alcohol more water. Increase your protein intake and your sugar consumption will naturally drop off.

Combining these three things when deciding on meals for the day or week, writing a shopping list or when you are eating out with friends. These simple and very achievable guidelines will help you become more mindful and back on track after the festive season.

HOW TO STOP OVERCOMPLICATING YOUR NUTRITION With HOW TO STOP OVERCOMPLICATING YOUR NUTRITION

With the weight loss industry promoting new diets almost weekly that will shed fat, increase muscle mass, put you into ketosis, detox your organs, improve your physical performance and leave you feeling energised... But only if you exclude certain macronutrients, food groups or just eat meat and animal products only...?
It can be easy to see why people feel confused and lost when it comes to figuring out what they should eat. Today I am going to break it down into the 3 most important takeaways that will get you started on a healthy, balanced path:

1. Calories in VS calories out will always be top priority 🍉: if you eat more calories than you burn, your weight will increase and the inverse is true. Your goals will discern how much or how little you should be eating but by complying with your calorie limit, you will achieve the result you are after
2. Protein Protein Protein 🥩: we talk about it all the time but it is seriously one of the most neglected macronutrients even though it provides the most benefit by far. Protein not only resynthesises muscle which promotes growth (therefore increasing our caloric demand meaning we can eat more) but it also increases satiety, meaning when you consume enough protein, you don’t feel as hungry for the snacks or sweets that will derail you long term
3. 80:20 Rule🍔: this one is my personal favourite and where most people get stuck. If eating 1 burger on a Saturday night with some friends is what helps you stick to your nutrition plan for the rest of the week, eat the burger. When we don’t allow ourselves to indulge in the things we love every now and then, we inevitably experience burnout and give up entirely. Just remember 80% whole food: 20% soul food.
