Last Friday night Real Fitness members gathered at the studio to be well informed about the havoc that wheat is playing on society’s health. “What’s with Wheat” is an Australian documentary that has opened our eyes to what wheat is actually doing to our bodies and the effects are endless. Jaw dropping and plenty of knowledge bombs throughout this informative and very well researched documentary, it was an eye opener to us all in many ways. Sitting there and watching everyone nodding in consensus or shaking their heads in disgust as to what was being said, it really reiterated our values and beliefs at RFT are those for optimal health benefits.
The reason behind why wheat is now playing havoc in our diet and on our bodies is a simple answer that has devastating ripples of effect. Two words that keeps popping up as to why our food doesn’t consist of as many nutrients as it once used to. Mass production. “These days” we (being society in general) want everything at a click of a button (quite literally). The world’s population is growing and the demand for wheat is growing as well. Wheat is quite literally in everything now. Cereals, breads, baked goods, packaged goods, baby foods, cosmetics, medications and supplements, cleaning products and even 20% of “gluten free” labelled items still contain wheat. Shocking isn’t it??
I know myself I have not consumed gluten for a very long time and feel fantastic for it but for those who see me on a daily basis know that I will tear up more than once a day. When I say tear up I mean I will walk around the gym with tears rolling down my face and people will ask me if I am ok, thinking I am crying uncontrollably. I can assure them I am not and I say it is the sunscreen in my moisturiser. I never really believed it was that but that is the story I went with. Easy and short. Until I watched ‘What’s with wheat’ and it got me thinking. I don’t wear make up to work that’s for sure however I do wear mascara and eye shadow on my eye brows (don’t ask). After listening to how cosmetics also can contain wheat and chemicals I went home to raid my make-up bag and fair enough. The first ingredient was wheat as well as other ingredients ending in numbers which is never a good thing. So to think that for someone who hasn’t consumed wheat in a very long time and little to no chemicals in my diet that I now have these “things” entering my eyes on a daily basis no wonder I was walking around crying half the day!! Well enough is enough. Good bye chemical filled cosmetics.
I want to personally thank Cyndi O’Meara, nutritionist and founder of Changing Habits, who went on a global quest to find out the reason why now there is such a rise in gluten sensitivity. She could not understand why, after millions of years of eating wheat, we now have this growing epidemic of wheat and gluten intolerance. So she decided fourteen experts from Australia, United States, England, New Zealand and India, including Dr. Perlmutter, Sarah Ballantyne, Dr. Terry Wahls, Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, Pete Evans, and others, weigh in on the subject and provided chilling answers.
So if you have any irritable symptoms for no good reasons, think twice as to what you are either putting on your body or in your body. Choose wisely when it comes to your health because ultimately we all deserve good health.
