Firstly, what does this even mean? When you cleanse the body you help to rid the body of impurities and toxins. When the body isn’t performing at a normal function it can negatively affect our system if these toxins stay in our body. Cleansing our system helps to re-energise and aid in restoring our body to optimal function. We do this by feeding the body with natural wholefoods high in nutrients while avoiding all processed foods especially foods containing sugar and gluten.
Cleansing the body aids in
- Driving toxins from the body
- Resetting organs to optimal function such as the liver
- Providing the body with nutrients
- Reducing inflammation
- Improving digestion
One of the main organs that benefits greatly from a detox or cleanse is the liver. The liver is responsible for processing sugars and when there is excess fat around the liver, its role is compromised leading to increased fat storage around the body.
The liver has 2 stages of detoxification, which are
- Stage 1 – The liver breaks the toxins down
- Stage 2 – The toxins are metabolised and removed from the body
Our body naturally is very good at naturally detoxing itself but a high stress life and poor diet can lead to the body not performing this cleanse at the level we need. Therefore we need to regularly cleanse our system. Think of a car and the amount of times we take the car in for a service. We don’t wait for something to be wrong first, we take the car in to cleanse it so it will perform at the level we expect.
When we cleanse the body we rid it of toxins which means we need to fill the body with adequate nutrients to improve function. It’s not about starving your body either. A cleanse is about allowing your body to perform at optimal function by providing it with adequate nutrients and while flushing out the toxins that cause our body to become sluggish.
There are a few warning signs which can indicate your body is in need of a cleanse:
- Feel sluggish
- Fatigued
- Struggling to lose weight
- Regular bloating
- Brain fog
- Digestive issues
Detoxing and cleansing the body is a process can take time so it’s important to remember to be patient. Different organs can take different times to recover such as the liver can take up to 4 weeks although it will depend on how toxic your body is.
